Brooks Range Alaska -Arctic Village to Anaktuvuk Pass - 2008
~340 km - 16 days of solitary hiking in the trailess wilderness in Alaska's Brooks Range. An exhausting trip involving difficult hiking over tussocks, many passes, hordes of mosquitoes, crossing many rivers, constant daylight, usually surrounded by arctic flowers. A beautiful and deserted landscape, in terms of large mammals I only came across one grizzly bear, one moose, and fleeting glimpse of wolves. The caribou which usually fill the valleys were on the calving grounds on coast (the place where some people want to drill for oil).
